German indie studio Grizzly Games, has officially opened pre-orders for Thronefall on iOS, bringing its minimalist real-time strategy experience to mobile. The game is currently already available on PC (vía Steam as premium game) and Nintendo Switch. Thronefall strips away the complexity of traditional RTS games, it has a streamlined yet strategic gameplay loop that focuses on base-building, economy management, and tactical combat.
The game is set in a medieval world, where we have to defend our kingdom through a day-and-night cycle. During the day, players fortify their base, manage resources, and expand their territory, while at night, they must defend against waves of enemies using archers, cavalry, and siege weapons. Unlike traditional tower defense games, Thronefall allows players to actively engage in battles, either charging into combat on horseback or holding the line with longbows.
The game has overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam, praised for its satisfying progression system, balanced difficulty, and engaging gameplay. The iOS version is expected to launch on May 20, 2025, according to the App Store Thronefall page. While no details on an Android release have been confirmed, we hope Grizzly Games will expand availability in the near future.
