Metal Slug Tactics is a turn-based tactical RPG developed by Leikir Studio and published by Dotemu, marking the first time the iconic Metal Slug franchise has been reimagined by a Western studio. Released globally on November 5, 2024 on PC, and coming to mobile in September 30, 2025, the game transforms the series’ signature run-and-gun chaos into a grid-based strategy experience, while preserving its explosive charm and pixel-art flair.
Set in a world once again threatened by the villainous Donald Morden, players command a squad of three Regular Army soldiers—including fan favorites like Marco, Tarma, Eri, Fio, and even the Ikari Warriors—as they battle through multi-stage regions filled with hazards, enemies, and towering bosses. The game introduces mechanics like Sync Attacks, where characters on the same line can chain their strikes for devastating combos, and Adrenaline Points, which fuel special abilities based on movement and positioning.
Metal Slug Tactics also incorporates roguelite progression, with randomized missions, unlockable upgrades, and a base called the Outpost where players can purchase gear and enhance their squad. The pixel art is meticulously crafted, capturing the retro aesthetic of the original arcade titles while adding modern animation and effects. The soundtrack blends nostalgic motifs with energetic new compositions, amplifying the battlefield intensity.
