Roblox has announced a comprehensive update to its safety protocols, introducing new measures to safeguard younger users and provide more robust parental controls. Starting in the first quarter of 2025, users under 13 will require parental consent to access direct messaging features and will be limited to public broadcast messages within games by default. Additionally, sharing personal information like phone numbers or addresses will be strictly prohibited.
The updates also include improved tools for parents, who can now manage their child’s Roblox account remotely through a linked verified account. These controls allow parents to review friends lists, set spending limits, monitor screen time, and adjust communication settings. Roblox has also revamped its content guidelines, renaming them “Content Labels.” This system categorizes games based on their suitability for different age groups. Children under nine, for example, will only access experiences labeled as Minimal or Mild, while Moderate and Restricted content will require additional parental approval or proof of age.
These changes stem from extensive research, including surveys, usability studies, and expert consultations, and reflect Roblox’s ongoing commitment to creating a safer platform. With over 30 safety updates already rolled out this year, these new measures aim to provide peace of mind for parents while enhancing the experience for younger users.
