HoYoverse’s upcoming mobile title Honkai: Nexus Anima has surfaced again, this time through leaked App Store images that hint at a major genre shift. The game appears to embrace autochess-style gameplay, featuring grid-based tactical battles with spirit-like companions.
Originally teased as a “creature-training RPG with urban fantasy elements,” Nexus Anima was expected to follow in the footsteps of Pokémon-inspired mechanics. However, the latest visuals suggest a strategic pivot toward auto-battler formats, with players placing units on a square board to engage in automated combat.
Despite the genre shift, the game retains its Honkai DNA through stylized visuals, lore-rich companions, and urban exploration. Earlier leaks hinted that spirits could glide, fly, or surf across environments, suggesting a hybrid gameplay experience that blends strategy with adventure. HoYoverse has yet to confirm a release date or supported platforms.
