Tencent new game, Roco Kingdom, an open-world monster-taming RPG inspired by Pokémon, is gearing up for its second closed beta test (CBT) in China on February 20.This new game is set in a magical world where humans and elves coexist, players will step into the role of a new college student embarking on an adventure to discover, befriend, and train powerful creatures.
For those unfamiliar, Roco Kingdom originated as a browser-based MMO in 2010, becoming one of Tencent’s most popular games. It later expanded into movies, comics, and spin-off games, solidifying its place as China’s answer to Pokémon. Now, after some years, the franchise is making its return with a 3D open-world RPG.
The game’s core mechanics revolve around capturing, training, and battling spirit creatures, allowing players to build powerful teams and make narrative-driven choices throughout their journey. While details about the monetization model remain unclear, Tencent’s approach will likely involve gacha elements and in-game purchases, similar to other mobile RPGs.
While there’s no word yet on a global release, Tencent’s history of expanding its major IPs internationally leaves room for hope. If you want more info about this new Beta (remember it will be available for China) you can go to the Weibo website.
