In the Live Event for 15th years of Steins Gate, japanese studio MAGES has announced Steins;Gate Re:Boot, a full-fledged reboot of the original 2009 visual novel that will bring its acclaimed time-travel adventure to modern platforms in 2025. Originally debuting on Xbox 360, Steins;Gate follows self-styled “mad scientist” Rintaro Okabe as he accidentally discovers time travel and embarks on a journey with his Future Gadget Laboratory team to untangle the mysteries of altering timelines and the ripple effects of his actions.
The game’s plot navigates a gradual shift from a lighthearted start to deep, darker themes, exploring human existence, PTSD, and ethical dilemmas. Unlike Steins;Gate Elite, which repurposed scenes from the Steins;Gate anime, Re:Boot will revisit the original game’s visual and narrative style with new artwork, updated character stills, and evocative music that stays true to the original experience. The teaser trailer hints at the reboot’s direction, with Kanako Ito’s iconic song “Skyclad Observer” making a return.
With a release slated for 2025, Steins;Gate Re:Boot will make its debut across yet-to-be-disclosed platforms, but it is a perfect game for mobile.
