In a very strange move, the upcoming action RPG Duet Night Abyss is officially abandoning its planned gacha and stamina systems in favor of a new, player-friendly monetization model. The developer, Pan Studio, and publisher, Hero Games, have confirmed the game’s new business model ahead of its global launch on October 28, 2025.
The game, known as 夜淵雙影 in China, has been in development for several years and previously featured a standard gacha system during its closed beta tests. Reviews from these tests noted a reliance on luck-based pulls for characters and weapons, which is a common practice in the free-to-play market.
Now all characters and weapons will now be unlockable through gameplay progression. As the game’s Google Play store page clarifies, players can “freely farm character fragments and forging materials to unlock your favorite characters and weapons at your own pace”.
This decision marks a fundamental change in the game’s design, moving from a monetized, randomized system to one that respects player time and investment, a very challenging move for a developer.
Duet Night Abyss is a fast-paced action RPG centered around a dual-protagonist storyline, allowing players to control and swap between two characters in combat. Its core gameplay is based on a high-degree of freedom, including a unique movement system and “multiple weapon loadouts.” You can pre-register for Apple devices in the App Store, and PC via EPIC Games.
