British indie studio Beyond The Pixels has unveiled Astro Burn, a 16-bit-inspired side-scrolling shoot-’em-up coming soon to PC (Steam), iOS, and Android. Developed by filmmaker-turned-game designer Hasraf “HaZ” Dulull, the game merges retro arcade aesthetics with modern roguelite mechanics.
In Astro Burn, players take control of Astro—a wisecracking feline space pilot—returning to a post-apocalyptic Earth overrun by AI war machines. Armed with an arsenal of pulse lasers, scatter shots, and grenade blasts, Astro must navigate bullet-hell levels across diverse environments including underwater cities, mechanical wastelands, and orbital battlefields.

The game features tight controls, couch co-op support, and a “Catnip Mode” power-up that slows time for precision dodging. Its synthwave soundtrack, composed by Venice Bleach, adds a nostalgic punch to the pixel-rich visuals. A demo is currently available on Steam, with mobile versions expected to follow shortly after launch.
For now, we only have the demo access in their Steam page, but the game is announced for mobile too, without a release date. More info on their X/Twitter account or their channel Beyond The Pixels on YouTube.
