Gakuen Bungo Stray Dogs launches on Japan, new anime school-life RPG game

Gakuen Bungo Stray Dogs (學園文豪ストレイドッグス) launches November 7 in Japan for iOS and Android, offering a school-life twist on the popular Bungo Stray Dogs franchise. Developed by NextNinja, the game blends strategic battles, chibi visuals, and mystery storytelling.

NextNinja teased the game some time ago, and we finally have it available. Just limited to Japan. Based on the short novel by Kafka Asagiri, the game reimagines iconic characters like Atsushi Nakajima, Osamu Dazai, and Doppo Kunikida as students and faculty at Sakura Academy, blending slice-of-life storytelling with strategic RPG combat.

Players follow Atsushi and his classmates as they uncover secrets hidden within the school’s forbidden old building, eventually stumbling into a mysterious mirror world known as “I-Kai.” The game features turn-based battles, auto-mode options, and a variety of mini-games, all presented in a charming chibi art style. Fully voiced cutscenes and animated story segments enhance immersion, while character interactions and favorability systems drive progression.

The game is free-to-play with in-app purchases, and early reviews on Japanese forums highlight its polished visuals and engaging narrative. While a global release has not yet been confirmed, I hope we get an overseas publishing, for now, the game is available on the Japanese Play Store for Android and Apple App Store for iOS. Updates and event details are being shared via the official X account.
