Australian indie developer Joshua Meadows has announced that his long-anticipated sci-fi visual novel, Alcyone: The Last City, will launch on April 2, 2025. Originally funded through a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2017, the game has been in development for several years and is now nearing its official release. Upon launch, it will be available as a cross-platform single purchase on Windows, macOS, and Linux/SteamOS via Steam, as well as on Android and iOS devices.
Alcyone: The Last City immerses players in a universe where civilization has been obliterated by a cataclysmic event known as the Nihility, leaving only one city—Alcyone—as the sole refuge. Within this isolated metropolis, society is governed by the Six Ruling Houses, maintaining a semblance of order amidst the surrounding void. Players assume the role of a “rebirth,” a being with downloaded memories, navigating a world rife with political intrigue, betrayal, and survival challenges.
The game boasts a branching narrative exceeding 250,000 words, where player decisions significantly influence the storyline, leading to one of seven core endings. It offers five romance options, including aromantic pathways, and features a deep RPG-inspired character system that allows for personalized character development.
For those interested in visual novels and narrative-rich, choice-driven experience, Alcyone: The Last City may be a solid option. The App Store for iOS devices are up, Android link will be in the official website.
