Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile Shuts Down Globally on April 17

Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile will no longer be playable after April 17, 2026, with servers permanently decommissioned. The game had already been removed from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store in May 2025, but players who had it installed could continue playing until now. The shutdown marks the final step in the title’s sunset, closing the chapter on an experiment that sought to bring iconic maps like Verdansk and Rebirth Island to mobile with shared progression across PC and console versions.

Despite its ambitious design, Warzone Mobile struggled with technical hurdles and high hardware requirements, limiting accessibility for mobile-first audiences. Activision admitted the game “did not meet expectations” compared to its PC and console counterparts. While cross-progression allowed players to retain skins, weapon blueprints, and XP compatible with Warzone and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, in-game currency purchased specifically within Warzone Mobile cannot be transferred. Players are advised to spend remaining COD Points before the cutoff date.

The shutdown highlights the challenges of translating console-scale shooters to mobile platforms. Personally, this may be a pragmatic move: while Warzone Mobile was bold in scope, its technical demands clashed with the realities of mobile hardware. By redirecting resources to COD: Mobile, Activision is betting on stability and proven engagement rather than chasing a vision that couldn’t fully deliver.
