At least in the UK. Fortnite, one of the most popular games in the video games history, is set to return to iOS in the UK in 2025. This news is significant given the long-standing legal battles between Epic Games and Apple. The gradual shift in laws within the EU and UK has facilitated Fortnite’s comeback on iPhone, marking a notable change in the digital landscape.
The announced was made from X Fortnite Account. By the second half of 2025, Fortnite will once again be accessible on iOS without the need for workarounds. While the wait might seem long, it highlights the ongoing shifts in the tech industry’s approach to app store policies, particularly those of giants like Apple and Google.
The conflict between Epic Games and Apple dates back to 2020 when Epic enabled direct purchases of V-bucks (the in-game currency) through its own system, bypassing Apple’s and Google’s payment methods. This led to a major legal confrontation, with Epic Games, led by Tim Sweeney, positioning themselves as challengers to Apple’s 30% commission on in-app purchases.
However, things are a little different with Apple. They may have to accept new “App Stores” in iOS. So, the game is set to return either through a third-party platform, Epic’s upcoming mobile store, or directly due to changes in domestic legislation.
