Netmarble next anime game, The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin is now open for pre-registration. There is a lot of excitement among RPG fans and long-time followers of Netmarble’s Grand Cross, and anime fans about this open-world action RPG set in the beloved universe of Nakaba Suzuki’s The Seven Deadly Sins.
In Origin, players step into the role of Tristan, the son of Meliodas and Elizabeth, as he embarks on a journey across Britannia’s vast landscapes. The game features powerful monsters, secret dungeons, rare treasures, and relaxing activities like fishing and cooking, blending exploration, combat, and storytelling into a seamless experience.
Unlike its predecessor, Grand Cross, Origin embraces real-time action combat, allowing players to switch between characters, execute dynamic combos, and engage in large-scale battles. The game also introduces new heroes, alongside familiar faces like Ban, Escanor, and King, each with unique abilities and playstyles.
Looking at Grand Cross, the original development team showcased impressive skill, crafting one of the best turn-based gacha adaptations of Nakaba Suzuki’s The Seven Deadly Sins universe. Early on, the game offered smooth mechanics, engaging PvE content, and competitive PvP. But as time passed, mandatory unit requirements for endgame progression began turning off many players. The monetization model also intensified, causing some to quit when hitting paywalls, rather than grind for diminishing rewards.
The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin has the potential to capture the magic of the franchise in a new format, but only if Netmarble prioritizes player engagement over aggressive monetization. Netmarble first showcased The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin at GDC 2023, and a new trailer is set to debut at Summer Game Fest 2025 on June 6.
