Enigma of Sépia – RPG, anime, waifus and more in this new mobile game

When I saw the banner for this game, I couldn’t help but notice the huge amount of references to famous anime works. But of course, that’s not uncommon in this world, although sometimes devs cross some lines. Chinese dev Unicorn Whale has officially announced Enigma of Sépia, an anime RPG game set to launch on Android and iOS on February 14, 2025.

The game is already drawing attention, as I said before, for its unique take on famous anime characters, transforming them into waifu versions without official licensing.

What do we know so far? Enigma of Sépia is an RPG that takes place in the dystopian Void City, where players step into the role of a Traveler collecting Soul Fruits to stop the goddess Sépia from plunging the world into destruction. Along the way, players will assemble a team of powerful female warriors—many of whom bear a striking resemblance to some of anime’s most well-known male protagonists.

The roster includes characters such as Denise (inspired by Denji from Chainsaw Man), Nora Zorana (clearly modeled after Roronoa Zoro from One Piece), Chronis with Star Platinum (mirroring Jotaro Kujo from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure), and Satoria (a take on Gojo Satoru from Jujutsu Kaisen). Other familiar faces are drawn from franchises like Naruto, Dragon Ball, Attack on Titan, Fullmetal Alchemist, Sword Art Online, and even Evangelion.

The game launches on February 14, 2025, and pre-registration is available now on Google Play and the App Store, there is more info on their official website and the X/Twitter account.
