Digimon is back. After the initial Digimon promotional video, Bandai Namco Entertainment Shanghai, in collaboration with Kingnet and officially licensed by Toei Animation, has launched Digimon Source Code, a turn-based RPG exclusively available in China.
The gameplay, well, a lot of classic turn-based mechanics with exploration and idle elements, a mix of strategy and casual gaming. Unlike traditional gacha systems, Digimon Source Code introduces a refreshing approach to collecting Digimon. Players can hatch Digi-Eggs while exploring the map, making it easier to complete their Digimon collection without relying on microtransactions.
It has an “Overload” system which adds a dynamic twist to battles, allowing players to unleash powerful abilities at critical moments. Iconic Digimon such as WarGreymon, Rosemon, and MetalGarurumon are featured, ensuring a nostalgic connection for long-time fans. The developers have used their Physically Based Rendering (PBR) tech to create great visuals, bringing the Digital World to life with cool environments and expressive Digimon designs. The game release is a finally a culmination of a journey that began with a closed beta in 2021 and a gameplay debut at ChinaJoy in 2023. While Digimon Source Code is currently exclusive to China, its innovative features and captivating design have sparked interest among global fans, Digimon is really popular in America and Europe and the announcement was in the international Digimon website, so, we can have some hopes.
