Gran Saga Global shuts down after six months of service

Sad news, developers of Gran Saga Global Edition have declared that the game’s services will officially terminate on April 30, 2025. This decision comes merely six months after its global launch on October 30, 2024, marking a short-lived presence in the international gaming market.

The development team cited challenges in maintaining a stable and continuous service as the primary reason for this shutdown. In-game purchases and new downloads were disabled following a maintenance break on March 6, 2025. Players who had already installed the game can continue their adventures until the end-of-service date.

Originally released in South Korea in 2021, Gran Saga took several years to reach a global audience. By the time it launched worldwide, much of its initial momentum had faded. Of course one of the major criticisms surrounding Gran Saga Global Edition was its monetization strategy. Many players felt it was unfairly priced compared to its Japanese counterpart, with global players paying significantly more for microtransactions.

Overall, Gran Saga Global Edition appears to have been overshadowed by competing interests in the West, where mobile MMORPGs often struggle to find a dedicated audience. For now, players have until April 30, 2025 to enjoy the game before its servers shut down.
