In preparation for the global release of the English version of Umamusume Pretty Derby, Japanese game developer Cygames has announced a partnership with the US-based Breeders’ Cup, a prestigious horse racing institution. As part of the collaboration, Cygames will sponsor the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Sprint event, which will take place on November 2 during the Breeders’ Cup World Championships in California.
As you may know, Umamusume Pretty Derby, a hit mobile game in Japan since its 2021 release, features anime-style characters inspired by real-life racehorses, where players act as trainers. The english version should come out soon, although its release date has yet to be confirmed. The partnership is seen as a strategic move to introduce the game to horse racing fans globally.
Cygames emphasized the company’s mission to offer top-tier entertainment worldwide and highlighted the connection between the game and horse racing. This collaboration, along with Cygames’ ongoing support for the Retired Racehorse Association of Japan, demonstrates the studio’s dedication to engaging with the racing community.
I expect the English version of Umamusume Pretty Derby will be available on iOS and Android as a free-to-play game with in-app purchases.
