Square Enix has announced (via X) the new Dragon Quest Smash Grow, a new mobile RPG that blends the franchise’s iconic combat style with roguelite progression. Pre-registration is now live on iOS and Android, offering milestone rewards for early sign-ups. Unlike traditional Dragon Quest titles, which emphasize party-based exploration and turn-based battles, Smash Grow introduces a deck-building system of signature attacks, where players collect and upgrade moves to survive increasingly difficult encounters.
The game’s structure revolves around roguelite runs, meaning each playthrough presents randomized challenges, enemies, and rewards. Players must adapt their strategies by combining attacks in creative ways, echoing the design philosophy of modern roguelike hits such as Slay the Spire or Hades. Square Enix has emphasized that Smash Grow retains the franchise’s charm, with familiar monsters, spells, and visual motifs, but wrapped in a faster, more replayable format suited for mobile audiences.

Visually, the game maintains the Akira Toriyama-inspired art style that defines Dragon Quest, with vibrant character designs and stylized battle animations. The roguelite format also allows for shorter, more intense sessions, making it ideal for mobile play while still offering depth for dedicated fans.
Dragon Quest Smash Grow is confirmed for a global release, with no regional restrictions announced. Square Enix has outlined plans for seasonal events and updates, ensuring long-term support and community engagement. You can pre-register in the iOS App Store and the Google Play Store for Android.
