Aether Gazer – End of Service Preparations Announced

Aether Gazer, the sci-fi themed action RPG developed by Yostar Games and Xiamen Yongshi, has officially announced preparations for its end of service, entering Maintenance Mode with no more new updates and servers scheduled to shut down later this year.

The announcement, shared via Bilibili, confirms that the title will be winding down after nearly two years of operation. Aether Gazer (深空之眼) launched globally in 2023, offering players a futuristic setting where humanity battles against corrupted AI entities known as “Visbanes.” The game quickly gained attention for its fast-paced combat system, which combined real-time action with squad-based mechanics, allowing players to control one character directly while issuing commands to allies.

However, the post in question, in essence, says that there is too much to work on and the team is too small and that the 5.2 update will be the last update, and 5.2 will last indefinitely. The servers are going to remain up and accessible but there will be no 5.3 or further patches.

Development updates over the years introduced new operators, story chapters, and seasonal events, but despite its strong art direction and comparisons to titles like Punishing: Gray Raven and Honkai Impact 3rd, Aether Gazer struggled to maintain long-term engagement. The developers cited challenges in sustaining content cadence and balancing monetization with accessibility, issues that have become increasingly common in the competitive mobile RPG market. The decision to prepare for end of service reflects a broader trend of mid-tier gacha titles facing difficulties in retaining global audiences against larger franchises.

Even though the announcement was made for the game’s Chinese server—since the game is developed in that country—it is inevitable that it will eventually reach the global server. However, to date, the official Global X account has not posted anything about it. Players will be able to access the game until the official closure date, with further details on compensation and final events expected to be announced by the developers in the coming weeks. The global version can be found in the Google Play Store with over 1M downloads.
