FingerLaserX Returns to Mobile on October 20, Rebuilt After 14 Years

Wei Ting Weng's neon arcade shooter FingerLaserX launches on iOS and Android on October 20, 2026, rebuilt from scratch more than a decade after the original.

FingerLaserX, the neon arcade shooter that first hit smartphones in 2012, is coming back to iOS and Android on October 20, 2026. The remake is being rebuilt from the ground up by Wei Ting Weng, the Taiwanese solo developer behind the original release, and pre-registration is already open on Google Play and the App Store.

The premise has not changed: you swipe across the screen to fire lasers at aliens descending from the top, hold your finger down to charge a heavier shot, and try to keep your base standing as the waves grow denser. Coins earned in battle pay for upgrades and gear, and more than 40 missions unlock new lasers and power-ups as you progress. Tougher enemies eventually give way to screen-sized bosses, and an in-game Enemypaedia keeps track of everything you have encountered.

At launch players will get three laser types — Basic, Bio and Ice — plus five gears: Battery, Magnifier, EMP, Time Bomb and Black Hole. Weng has confirmed that Heat and Electric lasers, four more gears (E.Wall, Decoy, Tai-Ji and Ion Cannon) and additional enemies will arrive in free updates after release. There is no stamina system, no forced advertising and the game can be played offline.

The original FingerLaser was a modest phenomenon. A 2012 promotional push briefly lifted it above YouTube on Taiwan’s free app chart, even though the game itself was little more than a finger-swipe experiment. Fourteen years later, the same developer has spent roughly five years rebuilding it from zero, which makes FingerLaserX one of the more unusual comebacks in mobile gaming — a solo project returning to a market that has changed completely since its first run.
