Pokémon UNITE is shutting down in Belgium and the Netherlands

Surprise surprise. Pokémon UNITE will discontinue its services in Belgium and the Netherlands by November 30, 2025. The game will no longer be available on mobile devices or Nintendo Switch in these countries, with in-game purchases ceasing earlier on October 31, 2024.

This decision is not due to low adoption, few players, poor revenues, no, nothing like that. This is because of the law and gambling. This comes as a result of strict gambling laws in Belgium and the Netherlands, which conflict with the game’s growing use of gacha-style lootboxes. Fans in these countries have expressed disappointment, criticizing the game’s focus on luck-based mechanics over player satisfaction.

This is not the first time it happens, Diablo Inmortal wasn’t released on both countries for the same reason, even Nintendo pulled out two games before. But don’t worry, this shutdown will not affect Pokémon UNITE’s global operations.
