In an interesting night, Balatro just won Best Mobile Game at The Game Awards 2024. It’s an incredible achievement considering that in this category it was up against such giants as Zenless Zone Zero by miHoyo, Pokémon Trading Card by DeNa, Wuthering Waves by studio Kuro Games, AFK Journey which was recently named Google Play’s game of the year.
The popular poker roguelike game made its debut on iOS and Android on September 26 as a premium title priced at $9.99. In less than a week, it has claimed the top spot on the paid game charts in major western markets, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, France, and Germany.
But Balatro also won in the category of best Indie game and best independent game. A great night for developer LocalThunk, and for indie games in general. Balatro is available on the Google Play Store, Apple App Store or on the Apple Arcade as Balatro+.
