Harry Potter: Magic Awakened is closing servers, but remains available in China and SEA

Sad news, sort of. The deck building card-battler game Harry Potter: Magic Awakened is set to shut down in America, Europe, and Oceania, with servers closing on October 29th. There was no magic to save this game. In-app purchases have already been disabled, and the game has been removed from all storefronts. However, the game will continue to be available in China and other Eastern regions, thanks to the ongoing publishing deal with NetEase.

Originally released in 2023, Magic Awakened joins a growing list of games that have been discontinued this year. Now this is important, because it is a important brand, a huge brand. The shutdown raises questions about the global popularity of the Harry Potter franchise and the ability of live-service games to sustain a player base. Unlike some other games that have transitioned to offline play, Magic Awakened will not offer such an option.

Players will also be unable to transfer their progress to servers in regions where the game will remain active. So, if you really like this game, you can only play the Chinese and SEA edition.
