Independent developer Gkoros Polychronis (GPoly Games) has released School Hero, an anime-inspired beat ’em up title now available on Android, iOS, Steam Deck, and PC. The game comes with full controller support (Bluetooth and USB controllers) and a really nice pixel art style.
In this beat’em up we are a new student at Sakura High School. The narrative takes a dramatic turn when HERO’s girlfriend is kidnapped by a malevolent group, propelling players into a mission to rescue her. The game boasts a captivating storyline enriched with anime-style cutscenes, providing a visual treat that complements its engaging gameplay. Surely, it reminds me a lot of Scott Pilgrim vs The World, is quite in line with this style of games that were very popular in the SNES era.
There are multiple modes, including Story, Arcade, and Survival, each offering challenges. The inclusion of an XP system allows players to level up HERO, while an in-game shop provides access to various items to aid in battles. Additionally, pets can be acquired to assist during combat, and interesting layer to the intense action. It also includes some mini-games to even out the tension levels between the different areas.
Now, the game is not free. It is available for download on the Google Play Store, App Store, and Steam, currently priced at 2.99$.
