Gravity Co. Ltd., the south korean video game studio renowned for its flagship MMORPG Ragnarok Online, is set to broaden its horizons by venturing into European and South American markets in this 2025 (published in SRTimes). This strategic move aims to replicate the game’s success in Asia, where it has garnered a substantial following over the past two decades. We have covered some of their game like Ragnarok Idle Adventure or Ragnarok: Rebirth.

Since its inception in the early 2000s, ‘Ragnarok Online’ has get player worldwide, boasting over 203 million global accounts as of August 31, 2024. The game’s popularity is particularly pronounced in Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau, where localized strategies have cemented its status as a cultural phenomenon. Gravity’s regional branches have adeptly tailored content to resonate with local audiences, incorporating cultural nuances and hosting events that enhance player engagement.

In Brazil, the affinity for Korean games is notable. A 2024 survey by the Korea Creative Content Agency highlighted Brazil’s leading position in Korean PC game usage and a strong preference for Ragnarok Online. The game’s enduring appeal in the region underscores the potential for Gravity’s planned expansion. The company’s strategy includes launching Ragnarok Online directly in Central and South America in the second quarter of 2025 and introducing the PC version of ‘Ragnarok Landbus’ later in the year. Additionally, Ragnarok X: Next Generation is slated for release in Europe and the Americas in the first half of 2025, alongside the PC game Gunbound targeting Southeast Asia and Latin America.

Gravity said, “Gravity has secured differentiated capabilities for successful title launches in local regions through seven overseas branches established in various global regions including Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the United States,” and added, “Following the achievements in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau, we will make this year a year to lay the foundation for expanding our global influence in new markets such as Europe and South America.”

From all this we understand that Gravity will have regional language support, and will be busy releasing global versions of its games. For now, Gravity is an important company for these markets, their “official” presence will only give them more audience (they have offices in all Asia and California US).
